How to Delete Your WhyRead Account

This page explains how to delete your account and related data for WhyRead, provided by Cafigla LLC (Japanese name: 合同会社カフィグラ) ("we").

Delete your account in the app

  1. 1.Open the WhyRead app and log in with the account (Google or X) you want to delete.
  2. 2.Tap the account icon in the upper-right corner to open the account menu.
  3. 3.Select "Delete account".
  4. 4.Read the confirmation dialog and check the consent checkbox.
  5. 5.Tap "Delete my account". Your account and related data are deleted immediately.

Delete your account on the web

Even if you have uninstalled the app, you can delete your account from a browser. Go to https://whyread.app/login , log in with the same account (Google or X) you use in the app, and follow steps 2 to 5 above.

Data that is deleted

When you delete your account, the following data is permanently deleted immediately and cannot be restored.

  • Account information (user ID, display name, email address, avatar image URL, and similar data)
  • Saved bookmarks (URLs, titles, save reasons (Why), notes, sources, quotes, read status, and other statuses)
  • Usage counts and history of the AI Summary feature
  • Paid plan contract information and records of consent to the Terms of Service and other documents
  • Tokens used to link the Share Extension, Share Activity, and browser extension

Data that is retained after deletion

  • Transaction records and similar data held by our payment processor (Stripe, Inc.): may be retained for the period set by that processor in accordance with applicable laws or its terms.
  • Data stored per article URL, such as AI summaries generated from article text: retained in a form not linked to any specific user and containing no information that identifies you.
  • Server access logs: automatically deleted after the retention period set by our hosting provider.

When you delete your account, your Stripe subscription is canceled immediately. There is no prorated refund for unused time.

If you cannot log in

If you cannot delete your account yourself (for example, because you cannot log in), please email info@cafigla.com with the subject "WhyRead account deletion request", including your registered email address and login method (Google or X). After verifying your identity, we will delete your account within a reasonable period.
